THE DONEGAL OVERCOAT

The Donegal Overcoat is the latest collaboration with Simon Crompton of Permanent Style, arguably the leading authority of classic & luxury menswear.

“This is the Donegal Overcoat. Yarn from Donegal, woven in Lancashire and manufactured in Manchester.

As an idea, it had its origins in the observation that I wore my brown raglan coat more often than any other last winter.

I wanted to keep the cloth. Donegal tweed is so pleasing in the texture it creates, yet subtle. There’s slubbiness in there and colour variation when you look carefully, but it never feels as old-fashioned as a big windowpane.

Genuine Donegal yarn, and weaving it in the UK too, appealed to Private White of course, given their emphasis on local make.”

THE BRIDGE COAT

"The elevator pitch was simple. Given how diverse and fluid modern wardrobes are, pea coats are an incredibly useful piece of menswear. Few other things are versatile enough to go with smart jackets and trousers, but also with jeans and knitwear. But they’re rarely designed with tailoring in mind. Pea coats are usually too short to cover a traditional suit jacket, and are often too small in the shoulder and sleeve. So we made a version that corrects these points - suited to the Permanent Style reader. That they can wear with their oatmeal blazers as well as their shetland sweaters"

THE VENTILE® MOTOR TRENCH

The Ventile® Motor Trench Coat with Cashmere Liner has been created in collaboration with Simon Crompton of Permanent Style. The brief? Simple, together we were to create the all year-round trench coat and in our humble opinion we have done just that.

"Long, muted-green and with classic style in the lapel and collar, it has become a foundation of my wardrobe since I started wearing a prototype in February. The removable lining, high collar and taped seams make it very practical, but it also has real swagger: a stylish update of a traditional model."
