Private White V.C's most personal service.
The Copper Club is where garments are issued, specified, or commissioned to be worn hard, kept for life, and passed down. Rooted in over 150 years of manufacturing in Manchester and informed by an archive of more than 15,000 historic pieces, it allows clients to refine proven garments or commission new ones from first principles. Every Copper Club piece is shaped by the wearer, guided by experience, and made entirely in our factory.

Issued or Commissioned
The Copper Club is structured around two distinct approaches, each rooted in the same factory, the same makers, and the same unwavering standards. The difference lies in scope. Clients may choose to refine an existing Private White V.C. garment through ‘Service Issue’, or develop something entirely new through ‘Special Commission’. Both are made in Manchester. Both are guided by over a century of experience. Each is defined by a different level of involvement.

Service Issue (Made To Measure)
An issued garment, refined to your specification.
‘Service Issue’ is built around existing Private White V.C. garments – proven silhouettes developed through decades of wear, repair, and refinement. This tier allows clients to adjust fit and specification while preserving the integrity of the original pattern.

‘Service Issue’ is built around existing Private White V.C. garments – proven silhouettes developed through decades of wear, repair, and refinement. This tier allows clients to adjust fit and specification while preserving the integrity of the original pattern.

Adjustments are made with purpose, including centre back length, chest and waist wrap, sleeve length, and back neck refinement. From there, garments may be further specified through controlled choices of cloth, lining, embroidery, and approved detail variations.
‘Service Issue’ is about confidence. The pattern is proven, the process is disciplined, and the result is a garment that fits as it should, performs as intended, and feels immediately familiar.
Service Issue commissions are priced above ready-to-wear, typically with a surcharge of approximately 40%. Lead times are usually 8–12 weeks, subject to cloth selection and availability.

Special Commission (Bespoke)
A garment developed from first principles, built once, to be passed down.
‘Special Commission’ represents the most involved level of the Copper Club. Here, there are no fixed pattern constraints. Commissions may be informed by archive garments, obsolete styles, historic military references, or client-supplied pieces that no longer exist.

‘Special Commission’ represents the most involved level of the Copper Club. Here, there are no fixed pattern constraints. Commissions may be informed by archive garments, obsolete styles, historic military references, or client-supplied pieces that no longer exist.

From the outset, clients work directly with the factory, either through in-person visits to Manchester or high-touch remote consultations. Patterns are developed or re-engineered as required, and garments may move through multiple development stages to ensure the final fit, structure, and function meet our unwavering standards.
Available for both men’s and women’s garments, ‘Special Commission’ is best understood as true bespoke rather than customisation. Each piece is conceived from first principles and developed without compromise, designed to be worn, repaired, and ultimately passed down – a modern heirloom made in Manchester.
Pricing and lead times vary according to scope, complexity, and development requirements, and are confirmed following an initial consultation.
