The Peacoat is a legend of outerwear, a coat forged in function, elevated by history, and perfected by time.

Its origins lie at sea, first appearing in the Dutch Navy of the 1800s, then adopted and refined by British and U.S. naval forces. It was built for battle against the elements, short in length for ease of movement, double-breasted for warmth, and high in collar to shield from wind and spray. From the engine room to the bridge, the Peacoat became a uniform of purpose, warm, rugged, and ready, a trusted companion for those in command and under orders alike.

This is a garment of precision and purpose. From the naval bridge to the city street, its design remains true to its roots, oversized lapels for protection, a cut long enough for tailoring, and military-grade internal pockets reinforced with RiRi hardware. Every seam speaks to our values: discipline, durability, and distinctly British style.

The silhouette remains true to its naval roots, but the fit has been subtly refined. It’s long enough to cover tailoring, yet sharp enough to wear with denim. Oversized lapels can be popped against the elements, while the body is cut to layer easily over a sports coat or suit. Its cut may be refined, but the discipline in every seam is unmistakably military. It’s the ultimate wardrobe ally, just as comfortable on a frosty commute as it is on a windswept weekend walk.

We’ve paid attention to every detail. Twin-welt front pockets are thoughtfully positioned and lined in brushed cotton corduroy for warmth. Internally, two zip-secure pockets, fastened with Swiss-made RiRi zippers, offer safe storage for a paperback, a tablet, or travel essentials. The buttons are real horn, British-made, and individually sewn on with a shank for strength. Subtle twin-needle topstitching reinforces the jacket throughout, adding quiet structure and durability.

The result is a coat that blends heritage with innovation, drawing on over a century of military design while embracing the expectations of modern life. It’s not just a winter coat. It’s the one you’ll reach for, season after season, year after year.

It’s not just part of our history, it’s one of our most beloved pieces, a best-selling PWVC hero, crafted with pride in Manchester.
