Meet Sweden's Most Stylish Man

5-minute read

I hope you are keeping well, how have you been finding the last year?

The last year has, as I imagine is for all of us, been quite challenging. In terms of work I've been surprisingly occupied so I can’t complain but socially it has been really tough. All trips to my family and friends abroad have been cancelled and I missed the wedding of a close relative which was something I would have loved to attend. There is light in this tunnel and hope for a brighter future ahead. In terms of future plans, hopefully we get to travel to our house in Antibes for a few weeks. It is truly one of my favourite places in the world.

Andreas recommends: Can you tell us a bit more about your personal style, inspiration, key wardrobe pieces and if you have any big do’s and don’ts?

It is always difficult to explain your own style and I normally leave that to others to describe but I do believe that it should be an extension of your personality. Like most Swedes, I tend to favour a monochromatic look of subtle colours consisting of navy, grey, brown and beige rather than saturated bold colours. It is not about right and wrong and I can surely get inspired by it, but I feel that the most important part in dressing well is to feel comfortable and relevant in your own clothes. I urge people to experiment and try new sartorial things but always rely on your own taste over trends.

What are your thoughts on what makes the Gill Marine jacket so special?

One of the things that I always enjoy with dressing is to mix casual and formal garments. As much as you should know the rules, it is equally important to question them and ask if they are relevant to you. The Gill Marine jacket was incredible as a casual and functional garment that I enjoy wearing over a tailored jacket and a pair of flannel trousers as much as a pair of jeans and sneakers. There is something quite fulfilling in throwing it on during a rainy day and still feeling elegant. The make, details and cut is extraordinary and the Ventile® fabric proved to be extremely reliable during even heavier showers in Stockholm.

Given the choice of anyone in the world whom would you have round for dinner? What would be your signature dish?

First of all I would have loved to have either Paul Newman or Sergio Loro Piana for dinner but sadly, none of them are with us anymore. Either way, I would serve them a mushroom risotto made with red wine and a stock from game or poultry. With this, I would serve a La Spinetta Straderi Barbaresco from 2008 that I really enjoy. Comfort food without any fuzziness. It might not be the best idea to serve a northern Italian industrialist a Risotto, but sometimes you have to take chances in life.

What’s your dream car and where would your first road trip be in it (no travel restrictions!)?

My dream car would probably be a Volvo P1800 (without a doubt the greatest design ever produced in Sweden) but as functional car for a road trip it might not be the best option. A Porsche 911 from the 90´s would also be high on that list and driving through the wine districts in northern California would be amazing.

ANDREAS WEINAS, SWEDEN'S MOST STYLISH MAN

Considering your enthusiasm for style, wine, whiskey and watches. What are your favourite of each?

I’m by no means an expert in wine or whiskey but I do enjoy them like you mentioned. In terms of wine, I´'m finding new exciting producers every month but I tend to favour older Champagnes if I had to choose one category. In terms of red wine, I'm a fan of the 5 B's (Bourgogne, Bordeaux, Brunello, Barbaresco and Barolo). Definitely more towards the old world even though I'm aware of the many extraordinary wines from the new world. If we speak about Whiskey, I´'m a bit more consistent. In my 20´'s I often preferred peated Islay whiskeys but the past 5 years I've landed in a preference for Highland whiskey in general and Macallan in particular. I find it a bit more balanced and refined.

Watches are probably my biggest passion together with menswear and I have been collecting them for about 15 years now. I tend to favour the classic icons that has proven the test of time, but I feel that different brands have different strengths. I love the horological pedigree of Patek Philippe, the wearability and brute quality of Rolex and Omega and the brilliant designs of Cartier. I tend to be quite conservative in terms of aesthetics and prefer smaller sized watches (below 40 mm) which I find is a better fit for my wrist.

What inspired you to return home to Manchester?

Manchester has always been my hometown, I was born just on the outskirts in Bury and have always loved coming into the city throughout my youth with Daniel. When it came to opening our first bar, our eponymous bar, there was nowhere else we considered. It’s got a great nightlife, a tremendous bar culture and we are delighted to be part of the nocturnal scene. It feels amazing to be home, and it is a really exciting time in the city. Despite the obvious hardship over the past 16 months, there is still such a relentless wave of optimism and energy throughout the city that one can’t help to feel emboldened and inspired. I’m very optimistic about the future of hospitality here.

What’s your life motto?

Live life to the fullest and do not wait for the perfect timing to do something you truly want. Most importantly, treat people with respect whether you have anything to gain from it or not.

Can you give us a brief snapshot into your daily life?

I need my morning coffee before my brain can function properly. As a freelance writer and business owner I work from my own space and often start the day with a French omelet (such a rewarding thing when you get it right). After that I work on some editorial content for magazines or plan upcoming campaigns and photo shoots. Most people that see the final shots have no idea of the planning and production behind some of the campaigns we produce but it is also what makes it fun and rewarding. I try to go to the gym at least 3-4 times a week. Either through cardio, lifting weights or practicing Muy Thai and kickboxing. It is a lot of fun and a great way to stay in shape. The good thing with investing is quality clothing is that you will go to great lengths to fit in them over time.

The PWVC x Gill Marine Offshore Jacket is now available in-store, online and at gillmarine.com.
