The Private White V.C. Bentley Bentayga

Behind The Seams With Bentley Mulliner

In the summer of 2023, Private White V.C. was approached by Bentley Motors to create a one-of-one bespoke Bentayga by Mulliner.

Bentley Mulliner shares our obsession with craft and quality, and places similar forensic attention to detail to everything it touches. The creative process, much like with our clothes, demanded hours of meticulous planning and careful deliberation around myriad intricate trim details, grains of leather, finishes of wood, paint, and metal alloys.

The result is a testament to the expertise and experience of the team at Mulliner and is a true expression of British heritage and luxury craftsmanship. The one-of-one Bentayga takes inspiration from both the courage of Private Jack White, my great-grandfather, and the signature details of our iconic British-made clothing.

Private White V.C. enthusiasts will applaud the use of our signature copper detailing throughout the cabin. The dashboard includes organ stops finished in anodised copper and a silhouette of ‘Cottenham House,’ the Private White V.C. factory built in 1853, overlaid onto wood veneered passenger fascia.

The veneer is dark-stained fiddleback Eucalyptus. Bentley has the pick of the top 1% of veneers worldwide and as you would expect the veneers are all hand-selected by a dedicated team of experts. The veneer is created by boiling the raw material until soft and then producing shaved leaves of veneer, which are then shipped to the Bentley factory in Crewe. The in-house team of artisans then creates the beautiful wood sets, lacquering and polishing multiple times until the perfect mirror-matched finish is achieved.

As a hidden delight, not only are there bespoke treadplates, but in the door pockets, we included the head of Brutus, our beloved British bulldog and an omnipresent sight marauding the offices of the here in Manchester. The image of Brutus was originally hand drawn, and then embroidered with over 1,773 stitches.

The glasswork is a sight to behold. The Bentayga employs the latest LED Matrix technology, while the design of the headlamps is inspired by the finest cut-crystal glasses. The result is like that of an illuminated cut gem, an effect which is magnified when the optional welcome sequence gradually illuminates the headlights as you approach the car.

To the seats and door interiors, clean, purposeful sewing lines reflect the style and functionality of military-inspired clothing. Bespoke embroidery, including the Victoria Cross emblem on the headrests (8,150 stitches) and Private White V.C. lettering (3,169 stitches), finish the cabin details off perfectly.

A new bespoke quilting was created especially for this car (where the normal Bentley diamond quilting would go) and comprised of 28mm wide tubular flutes that are synonymous with our iconic quilted jackets such as The Urban Husky. Loose cushions to the rear have been crafted from a Lancashire-woven cashmere cloth commissioned exclusively to commemorate Jack White’s regimental blanket stripe from 1917.

The outside of the Bentayga is finished in Dark Sapphire with contemporary Blackline Specification and rear privacy glass. The Private White V.C. exterior badge was a first for Mulliner in that it incorporates 3 colour elements with a copper finish: Polished Copper, Gloss Black and White inner. An elegant, subtle yet standout detail.

The bespoke 22” bright machined color-matched wheels would normally be in a black painted finish but to ensure a more cohesive connection between the wheel and body, we opted for Dark Sapphire painted pockets.
