PRIVATE WHITE V.C. X GOODWOOD REVIVAL

PRIVATE WHITE V.C. X GOODWOOD REVIVAL

The road ahead is teeming with tweeds, frocks, flat caps and pin-up curls. Groups of men in dirty overalls congregate outside a Shell garage that looks like it has escaped a Hollywood film set. The air is rife with the smell of motor oil – the rasping noise from old engines rises, backed by rapid commentary blaring through a speaker, only to suddenly be drowned out by a procession of swooping second world war Hurricanes. Despite being forgiven for thinking that you somehow travelled backwards over seven decades to get here – there is only once place in the world you could be: the Goodwood Revival.

Over the years we’ve always seen Goodwood’s celebration of classic motoring as a natural attraction to Private White V.C.. The halcyon era of made in England outerwear, when a man’s best armour was his trench coat and hat, the roar of an unsilenced v12 engine, and the glamour of a bygone era create an atmosphere like no other – a spectacle that has to be seen to be believed, and one that is very close to our hearts; an event that we write onto our calendars at the start of the year.

Although fans of all things on four wheels, we’ve always admired one in particular piece of British automotive history; the Jaguar E-Type. So much so, that if you’ve visited our Mayfair store you’ll probably recall an E-Type bonnet taking pride of place on our wall. Goodwood sees a collection of the finest E-Types that are still fit enough to challenge the likes of Aston Martin DB4 GT’s and Ferrari 250 SWBs battle it out in the traditional curtain raiser: The Kinrara Cup. We’re proud to collaborate with Jaguar Classics on our Ultimate Driving Jacket, but also to sponsor the race suit of a handful of E-Type drivers as they take on a Goodwood circuit that hasn’t changed since the 1940’s.

We’ve even been known to contribute to Goodwood’s vintage aesthetic ourselves. If you’re lucky enough to be attending this year, keep your eyes peeled for our iconic Goodwood suit; a trouser and jacket made from sturdy UK-woven cotton drill, dip-dyed for a uniquely worn effect, which has been used over the years by Goodwood staff as The Official Uniform.

If you’re lucky enough to be going over the weekend of the 13th September, be sure to stay in keeping with the vintage styling of the weekend. Our Ventile® Mac, made from the world’s first technical fabric that was specially commissioned by Winston Churchill is especially poignant for the weekend; steeped in history but ready to fend off any stray track-side showers thanks to being entirely weatherproof. Then there’s the Flight Jacket, featuring an action back and reinforced arms much like the RAF original, its shearling collar could just be the touch of theatre your Goodwood outfit needs
