BEING TRANSPARENT IN
AN AGE OF EXCESS

BEING TRANSPARENT IN AN AGE OF EXCESS

BEING TRANSPARENT IN AN ERA OF EXCESS

Almost twelve months ago I pledged, quite publicly, that we were going to shy away from conventional retailing, embrace price transparency and staunchly continue to develop and grow our own factory nestled in the heart of Manchester. A bold declaration in the face of unprecedented levels of change and upheaval across technology, politics and consumer behaviour.

Since May 2018, our business has transformed almost beyond recognition. We have enjoyed record sales, shipped to over 50 countries and last month was our best-ever April (up almost 700% on the previous year).

We have garnered huge praise from regional & national government for our commitment to UK manufacturing, have received countless international accolades for design and innovation whilst dressing Hollywood actors, sports stars, politicians, and our wonderful community of supporters across the globe. A huge thank you to you all.

Nobody could be prouder of our amazing team or feel more energised about the momentum and our prospects for further growth. That said, despite our (relative) success we are not immune to the rather inconvenient issue of fragmented stock and sizes. As a result, we are today launching the Private White V.C. Archive: a platform for you to buy some tried, tested and often iconic styles that are being discontinued (or retired from loyal service, as I like to think of it).

These garments have been lovingly handcrafted to the same exacting standards that you would expect from any Private White V.C. garment. There are no fabric flaws, no defects, no seconds. Whether it is due to fragmented sizes, the presence of last season’s woven brand-neck label, the discontinuation of a fabric or to make space in the range for a different design, these garments may cost a little less, but are all made to last a lifetime.

We see this as a ‘win/win’ for everyone, and an opportunity to invest in Private White V.C. garments, for perhaps the first time, at a slightly lower price (whilst stocks last!).

As a dynamic, design-led, family-owned business with vast ambitions to keep growing, (sensibly and organically), it will allow us to create some much needed space in our warehouse (you’re welcome Pat!) whilst alleviating some of the pressure on our working capital (you see Helen, we do listen to you occasionally!). Every clothing brand has a strategy for managing its discontinued lines, whether that be an outlet at Bicester or a bonfire (!) and this new online initiative will allow us to ultimately:

  • Invest more in on-site training for our staff
  • Continuously improve and modernise our factory, equipment, IT and infrastructure
  • Make more products and employ more people in the UK
  • Remain true to our values and sustainability ethos.

Like I said, an undeniable ‘win’ for everyone.

For the next 72 hours the Archive is available exclusively to our followers and supporters, and so I implore you all to move quickly to avoid disappointment. If you are fortunate enough to find an item in your size, I am confident you will cherish the garment as much as we have enjoyed making it here at our factory.

Happy shopping and please keep spreading the Manchester-made word.
