ANNUAL SUPERCAR SUNDAY EVENT.

There’s a reason behind my love of British affairs. Whether it be an automobile, painstakingly built by hand in the auto-fabrication hub of the Midlands; or British fashion, lovingly crafted with heart, soul and passion. There is just something deeper than the tangible product that results.

0630. It’s a cold, dark, and wet Sunday morning when the daily ritual of removing the roof becomes task three of the day. One and two of course being breakfast and which jacket to wear. You see the Jaguar Project 7 isn’t your ordinary car. Only 250 were built to commemorate seven years of Jaguar Le Mans victories, featuring a single rear fin akin to those very winning Jaguar D-Type’s of the 50’s, complete with a fabric 4 piece roof that requires a certain level of engineering skill to remove and replace.

Not unlike the Private White V.C. Ventile Mac 3.0, the Project 7 is tailored in the elegant shade of British Racing Green and comes equipped with a 5.0-litre Supercharged fire breathing V8.

It’s this car that we are taking to lead a group of like-minded fellows on a weekend Road Rally to the palatial Stonor Park Estate. It’s not the fastest (although it’s not a slouch) and it’s not the most expensive, but it’s the one car in the Stable that delivers a Cheshire cat-esque grin every time it’s driven. Fire up that roaring eight cylinder, and you’re met with a comical level of noise. You just know the engineers that developed the unique nickel-chromium-based ‘Inconel’ exhaust pipes were enjoying every minute of testing and development.

Jaguar is a brand I’ve admired for a long time, and aside from the obvious history and heritage they keep, it’s the fact that they have remained true to their one rule - ‘produce amazing cars to drive’. Stick to your mission statement, and you deliver expectations to your customers.

Still, heading out wearing the Private White V.C. Moleskin Bomber, it’s over to meet the team and get acquainted with some new faces ahead of our convoy out. It’s important when you’re driving to be comfortable. Difficult then perhaps when the Project 7 has no additional heating, wind deflector, and a windscreen 114mm shorter than standard - but I’m warm, and enjoying every minute of listening to that bellowing tenor behind my head.

It’s not unusual for some of our members to bring their toys out to play, particularly on a Sunday with clearer roads, and especially as it warms up, but nobody was expecting what appeared next. “It shouldn’t be on the road”, “surely that’s not road legal”, were just some of the comments as the all-new Ford GT rolls into the car park. First thing to note is its size. It’s massive! Wide, long, low, and an enormous rear wing deployed at the touch of a button. Some car then to bring on a Sunday morning drive around Berkshire’s tight lanes.

Wheels up, it’s a spirited drive over to Stonor Park to join house owner and friend William Stonor as he opens his sprawling garden up for us all to join the Annual Supercar Sunday event.
It’s great when you’re in an open top. Aside from the sounds, smells and sun you get whilst driving, you also build a much closer bond with the audience as we made our way slowly up the driveway amid the growing group of spectators excitedly seeing these supercars covered in the countryside’s wares and clearly driven as they should be. Good job I’m dressed to impress really as it’s about as exposed as you can get with every camera facing your direction (although I’m sure they were really focused on the spaceship Ford GT behind me)

The event itself is a celebration of all things close to my heart. Great engineering, heritage and good food! This is the reason I wanted to support the growing event, and more importantly why I was proud to represent Private White V.C wearing the Moleskin Bomber. Not only have I found my perfect driving jacket, but it’s a brand I’ve long admired from the last remaining clothing factory in the world’s first industrial city.
